How to stay healthy in a long term!

I benched 235lbs

Posted by dokidok on July 10, 2008

One year ago, I said to myself that when I lift 225lbs I will stop increasing the weight. Now, I can lift 235lbs and can’t stop. What is the limit? We will see. I think there is no limit.

Continue with thedailyplate

Posted by dokidok on May 27, 2008

I am on thedailyplate again. I know it takes time to learn how to enter the meals, but in few more days I believe I will be faster and it will take me not more than 30 minutes to finish with everything.

First I need to learn the food lingo. Let’s start with some veggies pictures and proper names.

My bench press is OK again

Posted by dokidok on April 23, 2008

2 days ago I did flat bench press (with my nephew) and I was again surpriced that 230 lbs weren’t that heavy anymore. The question is, should I stop to that level and continue practising more reps or to continue increasing the weights. I also did biceps this day following the advice of Vic’s natural. I used only 20 lbs dumbbells and did as many reps I can. I noticed that focused biceps exercise with less weight is more effective than lots of weight and bad performance using any other muscle of your body but not biceps. I still want to do ones per week biceps with an easy curl 100 lbs just to remind the muscles that there is heavy weight out there.

Yesterday I ran 5 k. It was very easy. I think I am getting in good shape now.

Yes, I benched 230 lbs twice. This time it was easy.

Posted by dokidok on April 15, 2008

I was surprised! Yesterday I benched 230 lbs twice in 3 sets, and it wasn’t that heavy. My guess is that running 3 times for the last 3 weeks improve my physical condition a bit. My second guess is that I had a 1/2 piece of cake full with calories. I ate it 2.5 hours before my exercise (as far as I know if you eat sugar based food you gotta use the energy in the next 30 min or 1 hour). May be that helped. My third guess is that I trained only 2 times last week, and my body was completely relaxed. The fourth guess is that 3weeks ago I started doing “reverse pyramid” until failure. My last guess is that it was just one of the days when for some reason no matter what is going on in your life you just go to the gym and lift weights like crazy. Who knows?

The only thing I know for sure is that being consistent in your exercise program, not having more than 3 days without exrecising, and gradually increasing your weight will bring you the best results. Keep working out and enjoy your time in the gym.

My goal is to loose 20lbs until December 2008, but to keep my muscle mass and strength almost the same (hmmm, isn’t that the goal of everybody?). I know that loosing some weight will probably lower a bit the weight I use now, but I will do my best to keep my strength at the same level by keep lifting heavy weights despite the weight changes.

List of websites for calorie counting

I didn’t know that I weight 20lbs more than my ideal weight. It’s time for change!

Posted by dokidok on April 11, 2008

1. I read Leoruns and adjusted the age of my fitday log to 65 and the lifestyle to sedentary. This is Leo’s suggestions.

2. I made an account with thedailyplate.

3. I tried calorie-counter plus, but don’t like it very much. Cannot adjust the food as well as fitday.

By the way I ran 5k yesterday, it was kind of hard especially in the beginning. I also felt some kind of a stubbing pain on the left side on my chest (guess what?…the heart is there), and that make me think that I am really overweight and eat too much greasy food, which is not good for my coronary arteries. Hopefully that pain was something not related to the heart. I want to see how I am gonna feel on the next run in few days. What I realized:

1. Never think that you are OK with your health…or that other people are fatter than you and that means you are healthier. Don’t think, check your health and lifestyle.

2. Keep watching your diet.

3. Involve more cardio in your exercise program. Only heavy weights are not enough.

Calories needed for goal weight

You should consume about 2275 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 165 lbs by December 30, 2008.

Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and activity level. It may vary slightly depending on other factors.

Generally, women should not consume any less than 1,200 calories per day, and men should not consume less than 1,500 calories per day.
